The Geological Museum, Faculty of Geology, Geophysics, and Environmental Protection of the University of Science and Technology in Krakow was established in 1969. It is one of the greatest geological exhibitions in Poland – over 200 showcases and several thousand exhibits. Three levels of corridors and galleries of the main university edifice house 10 permanent exhibitions, including “Karsic effect”, “Geology and natural richness of the Krakow area”, “Natural minerals of Poland”, “Geology of deposits” and “Palaeontology”. The museum collection includes many exhibits gathered in the first half of the 20th century by Professor Walery Goetl and Doctor Eugeniusz Panow.
Definitely enjoying the greatest popularity is the “Palaeontology” exhibition (existing for 40 years) and the new showcases placed in the galleries, which along with the showrooms make up a big display of minerals and fossils, numbering over 900 exhibits. The exhibition captures the beauty of the geological exhibits and thanks to the colouristic and thematic diversity quickly became an aweinspiring object among university visitors, students and employees.

Recently the museum has diversified some forms of its activity. In May 2006 it prepared a gold panning demonstration for the “Krakow Festival of Science” taking place on the Main Market Square in Krakow.
