The Geological Museum of the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection of the University of Science and Technology was established in 1969, but the accumulation and assembly of the geological collection began in 1919 along with the establishment of the University and the 1920 creation  of the General Geology and Palaeontology Institute. This is one of the largest geological expositions in Poland, with over 200 display cases and several thousand items on exhibit. The corridors and galleries of the three storeys of the UST's main building are home to ten permanent exhibits, including "Karsic Effect", "Geology and the Natural Riches of the Krakow Area", "Natural Minerals of Poland", "Geology of Deposits", and "Palaeontology". There are many specimens in the museum's collections gathered in the first half of the twentieth century by Professor Walery Geotl and Doctor Eugeniusz Panow.

The "Palaeontology" exhibit enjoys decidedly the greatest interest (now 40 years old) along with the display cases located in the galleries, which together with the display rooms, create a large exposition of minerals and fossils, with over 900 specimens. In the centre, between the display cases, is a life-size reconstruction of a Tarbosaurus. There are also plaster casts of the skeleton of an Ichthyosaur as well as skeletons of equines, mammoths, and a human being.

The display highlights the beauty of geological specimens, whose variety of colour and theme rapidly become an object of admiration for guests visiting the University.
